Derby is one-and-a-half-hour drive from Launceston and a little further to the airport. From there it's a one-hour flight to Melbourne or 90-minute flight to Sydney.
It is approximately a three-hour drive from Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, which is an enjoyable overnight or day trip between Melbourne and Devonport.
